I got up this morning and I put some coffee on
Stared out the kitchen window, thinking all alone
And when I heard you stirring
The thought raced through my mind
How much I’ve grown to need you
And how you fill this heart of mine

coffeeIf you had never happened in my life
I can’t help but wonder what my world would be like
Because all the things I treasure most
As far as I can see
It never could have happened, girl
If you hadn’t happened to me

Would I be a single man — would I be married now
Would I have a different job — would I still live in this town
The thought of never holding you in my arms at night
There’s nothing in the world that could ever make it right

If you had never happened in my life…

Sometimes in the rush of things I don’t take time to say
I appreciate the beauty that you bring my life each day
And sometimes when I hold our children in my arms I see
How close I came to missing everything you’ve been to me

If you had never happened in my life
I can’t help but wonder what my world would be like
Because all the things I treasure most as far as I can see
It never could have happened, girl
If you hadn’t happened to me
